Maria Angelica needs plastic surgery

Maria Angelica is one of Mayan Families' sponsored students, she is 11 years old and goes to the school in San Jorge, where she lives with her parents and siblings.

She is a very sweet and shy girl who likes to play with her friends, do sports and study, however, she is very embarrassed about her looks and usually prefers to stay home and play by herself, because she is afraid that the other kids will make fun of her.

When she was only 4 month old she was the victim of a terrible accident. She had just left the public hospital in Pana with her mother and one of her brothers when they were caught in the middle of a protest and she was hit by a gas bomb. She was very lucky to have had immediate help and get out of it alive. She was first taken to Guatemala City and afterwards she went to the United States for her treatment. She went through a series of surgeries but her scars are still very visible.

Yesterday we took her to the capital to see a doctor that is already helping us with another case and the doctor said that they can perform some minor plastic surgeries that will make her scars less visible. The doctors gave her a mask that she has to wear during the night and made an appointment for September.
